It was through the power of Twitter earlier this week that led me to this rather unnecessary, (but oh so lovely), purchase of the Zao Organic Brown Eye Set (£30.95) from Glow Organic. It’s a shame I wasn’t giving this as a present as it is part of their Christmas section and came in the most beautiful, festive packaging.
The Zao packaging is quite unique, in it’s bamboo casing (see more about their packaging here). I chose the Brown Eye set, not just because I have brown eyes, but because the shadows are matte. I prefer to use matte shadows on my more ‘mature’ eyes. The neutral shades of this set would work well on any eye colour.
The shadows are 100% natural, with key ingredients being macadamia seed oil and bamboo stem powder. They are also refillable (refills £6.85) which is a great idea and purse friendly too.
As I’m still exploring the ‘clean makeup’ world, I was unsure as to how this set would perform. However, they are a dream to use. They are soft, the pigment is strong, they blend beautifully and there is almost no fallout. I have found nothing not to like about them. I would advise using an eye primer or cream shadow as a base as this helps the staying power of any shadow (I sometimes use a concealer for this).
The colour combination is perfect and is all that is needed to create either a natural or smoky eye. The dark brown shade also works well as an eye liner, although the pencil is impressive too. The pigment is strong (however, it doesn’t stay on the waterline for long), and is great for pushing between the lashes. You can see how I create a 15 Minute Party Eye Make-Up here.
If you’re looking for a make-up gift this Christmas, or just want to treat yourself I can certainly vouch for this set.
Have you tried any of the other shades? I’d love to know what you think.
