There’s something about an eye shadow palette that gets me every time. Even though, more often than not, I know I’ll only end up using a couple of the shades. They get me. Hook, line and sinker!
I am a huge fan of French brand Avril which I was introduced to by UK online natural beauty retailer Cosnatural. They are possibly the most affordable natural cosmetic brand that I have come across. Price aside, some of my all time favourite makeup products are from Avril (see my ‘If I Could Only Pick One…’ post).
When Avril contacted me recently to ask if I’d like to pick some products from their website to try, I was immediately drawn to the Ecocert Organic La Palette Nude* (19 Euros). This coincided with me receiving the RMS Beauty Vintage Cake Liner which I became slightly obsessed with, skipping eye shadow completely, only using the Vintage Cake Liner, which delayed me trying out the Avril palette.
Once I did get down to business and give the La Palette Nude a good road test, I quickly found a new obsession! It contains three, what I would describe as satin shades (top row) and three matte shades. I have found myself favouring the two bronze shadows (top right), generally going for a simple one shade lid.
I have tried wearing the shadow in various ways; on a bare lid, on top of a cream shadow/concealer and either applying with a wet or dry brush. The colour pay off is fantastic and although my preference has been to wear single shades, they do blend beautifully together.
I was surprised at the staying power of the shadows. Although, yes, the intensity isn’t there at the end of the day, it certainly is still noticeable.
I think the shades in this palette are universally flattering, suiting most skin types and eye colour. The paler shades work well as a base or on their own to neutralise the eye lid. The matte brown shades work really well to create a smoky eye and, as I mentioned, the two bronze shades look beautiful worn alone on the mobile lid.
For a more intense look I use a damp brush. I also like to wear them on top of RMS Beauty’s Magic Luminizer, although they hold their own equally well without a cream base.
I have also found myself using the darkest matte brown shade for my brows. In fact, I’ve ditched my Ecobrow in favour of this!
If you’re looking for a multi-use palette, that has great colour payoff and staying power, then why not give this a try? You can buy direct from Avril here.
